There were two tornadoes rated EF-3, two EF-2s, one EF-1, and 14 EF-0s. Tornado developed in rural southern Wright County east of Woolstock and traveled east- northeast for the duration of the event. The tornado remained in rural ag fields producing only crop damage. The second tornado was a weak tornado that developed east of Woolstock shortly after the first and remained in farm fields. Tornado developed just east of Interstate 35 in far eastern Ankeny moving northeast.
The tornado encountered a farmstead shortly before dissipating producing EF2 damage to trees. A tornado outbreak occurred on the afternoon and early evening of July 19, 2018 over central Iowa. This is a summary of the tornadoes along with various photos/videos, radar, satellite, and environmental data from that event.

Still images and loops of the Mesoscale Sector imagery from GOES-East satellite. National Weather Service offices can request a Mesoscale Sector during inclement weather so that we can have access to 1-minute satellite imagery. The normal operations of GOES-East provides 5-minute imagery. Tornado developed northwest of Blairsburg and moved northeast through agricultural land. The tornado dissipated just prior to crossing County Highway D20. It developed shortly after the main tornado crossed into Mahaska county and moved due south on the backside of the larger Pella tornado.
In 2018, there were a total of 69 tornadoes that touched down in Iowa, 21 of which occurred on July 19, 2018. Of those 21 tornadoes, 19 were within the Des Moines NWS office area and 2 occurred in the area of the Davenport, IA NWS office. The most significant damage was in Pella, Bondurant, and Marshalltown. All 19 tornadoes have been rated and the track information is listed below in the Tornado Section.

Winterset Kitchen & Laundry Remodel
My clients had an opportunity to purchase a lot in Angel Park, which was the planned site of the Des Moines Home Show Expo 2018. This particular lot was adjacent to the incredible biking trail system we enjoy here in Des Moines with a fabulous view as well. They had already selected a builder – K and V Homes – so all we needed to do was get the house designed, built, and furnished by the beginning of July 2018. One of the first things movie goers will notice is the original 1938 terrazzo (tah-RAH-zoe) flooring has been uncovered and refurbished to a gleaming shine. There are 5 additional EF-0 tornadoes not shown below, but you can find them in the above KMZ file and the table below.
They pull out some of the gray veining in the Parthenon quartzite and add a subtle depth and dimension to the room. I love this modern interpretation of such a classic design element. The kitchen is my favorite room in this custom home for many reasons.
I designed the vanity with custom mirrors trimmed out to match the cabinetry so that the entire wall would feel like one unified element. This also allowed me to drop the mirror at the makeup table so that my client can use it while seated. The bedroom is at the back of the house, while the closet looks out onto the front, with the bathroom in between.

We added an applied molding detail to both rooms painted in white semi-gloss to match the trim. This architectural detailing adds so much character but doesn’t feel as heavy as beams or coffers on a nine-foot ceiling. When you first enter the home through double doors, the dining room is on your left and the office is on your right.
